The Zyoptix
Correction of myopia,
hyperopia and/or astigmatism
Laser eye surgery, with or without INTRALASE,
can be combined with another technology: the ZYOPTIX. The zyoptix
is a Lasik+, with all of the advantages found in a lasik surgery
PLUS superior results!
The 100% Vision Clinic was founded
to provide the best possible eye care - that's why we've been
using Zyoptix technology since April 2001. Our experience suggests
that this is indeed a major breakthrough in refractive eye.
Zyoptix at a glance…
- Treats optical aberrations of the eye.
- Reduces glare and halos around lights.
- Improves visual acuity and sharpens vision.
- Increases contrast sensitivity.
- Provides personalized treatment for each eye.
Zyoptix offers more…
Zyoptix is a great innovation in refractive
surgery. It was awarded the silver medal by the very prestigious
European Technology Innovation Award in 2001, in the biotechnology
and medical technology’s category. Indeed, Zyoptix is
a very effective technique : it shows better results for night
time vision (50% increase in comparison with the best corrected
vision prior to surgery) in addition to increased day time vision
(5% increase in comparison with the best corrected vision prior
to surgery).
Lasik VS Zyoptix
Visual acuity
Both of these two treatments
offer great improvement of visual acuity. As a matter of fact,
researchers evaluated patients' optimum vision before treatment
with their glasses or contact lenses, allowing an accurate comparison
of pre-surgical corrected vision with post-surgical vision.
Three months after the surgery, parallel
evaluations demonstrated that 28% of patients who had received
a lasik operation had improvement in their vision acuity (post-surgery
vs vision with glasses/contact lenses prior to surgery).
In comparison, Zyoptix patients
showed even better improvement, with a 51% increase of their
vision (post-surgery vs vision with glasses/contact lenses prior
to surgery), proving that the new technology is one of superior
quality and merits. It is because of these results that the
Zyoptix procedure received the silver medal recognition from
the 2001 European Technology Innovation Awards.
Corneal tissue
Important analysis on the preservation of corneal tissue demonstrates
that the Zyoptix removes much less tissue than the standard
Lasik surgery, particularly in cases of acute myopia.
Quality vision
By way of comparison, 114 patients underwent a visual exam one
month following their surgery. The results were as follows :

The surgical procedure
Benefiting from this revolutionary technology
involves a three-stage eye exam.

First of all, an apparatus called the
Orbscan produces a three-dimensional study of your cornea; measuring
elevation, curves and thickness. This device is so precise that
it measures your eye in 18,000 points. All that in just three
seconds! The Orbscan then produces a diagnostic image that allows
a complete assessment of your eye.

Secondly, the Zywave aberrometer (or Zyoptix pretest) identifies
aberrations in your optic system. By passing a light across
your eye, we identify aberrations and imperfections. The size
of your pupil in the dark will determine the expanse of your
eye that will be treated. The procedure is adjusted to your
pupil size in the dark, in order to diminish the occurrence
of halos and glare at night. The tests results from the Zywave
and the Obscan give the data needed for the calculation of a
specific treatment for each eye.

Thirdly, test results are transmitted
to the new Zylink software which integrates this data with Dr.
Doyon’s examinations and then designs an appropriate treatment,
specifically established for each of your eyes. The treatment’s
design is saved on a quartz card that is placed in the laser’s
light pathway, producing the SPECIFIC Zyoptix treatment.

Possible side effects
This new technique is very effective.
The Zyoptix procedure improves the quality of your vision and
eliminates the problem of halos around lights. However, it is
important to be aware that depending on the specific characteristics
of each individual, response to surgery can differ. Generally,
this kind of surgery causes virtually no side effects.
Dry cornea : The eye
is often dryer after refractive surgery. We therefore recommend
the use of eye drops several times a day for a few months following
refractive surgery.
Under-correction or over-correction
: Sometimes, the eye can be slightly over or under-corrected
following the operation. If it is enough to impair vision, a
second intervention can be made 2 or 3 months following the
first refractive surgery.
Other possible side effects :
Thanks to advanced surgical technology, infection risks
are minimal, but nevertheless possible. Inflammation at the
interface is also possible, and should be treated with cortisone
drops.
